Background
“Being a higher educational student success professional is my calling because the responsibilities of the vocation come to me naturally.” – Mr. Eddie Venegas
As a former first-generation college student Mr. Venegas learned a great deal about navigating the higher educational landscape. The journey to earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Counseling followed a different timeline than the standard high school to college timeline. After two years of community college Mr. Venegas dropped out of school and worked his way up to becoming a commercial truck driver and then a Logistics Coordinator for a machine company. Although the pay was good, there was something missing that made each workday something to get through to Friday.
Returning to college at 25 years old Mr. Venegas began to understand the value of a college education. He believes it is important to develop the skills and capacities of personal value during your educational experience. Although grades are important, what is more important is owning your college learning experience. In over 15 years of working with college students Mr. Venegas encourages students to seek out majors that align with their personal preferences, strengths, and interests. The hope is that the selected major becomes personal, and the student becomes even more invested in succeeding.
Mr. Venegas enjoys working with all students who represent a variety of backgrounds. He values each student through respect and encouragement where students who meet with him feel cared about and heard.
“Consider it pure joy, brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let Perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” (James 1: 2-4 NIV)
